Bizarre new movie - The Bridge

A bizarre new movie will come out soon. It's about people who commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. The film makers spent a year staking out the bridge and waiting for people to jump. The question that immediately comes to mind is if they spent so much time staking out the bridge to catch these acts of suicide on film, why didn't they do something to stop at least one of these people?

Dishonest, yet hilarious

I was amazed to hear that David Zucker (Airplane, Naked Gun) had made some pro-GOP, anti-Democrat ads. The first was an anti-Kerry ad that played on the flip-flopper meme. That one was only semi-funny. It was too much like a regular campaign ad with a little Zucker thrown in.

Now, there is another ad that is much more disingenuous, yet much more hilarious. It has Madeleine Albright (a lookalike) playing basketball with Kim Jong Il and painting Osama bin Ladens cave for him.

I'm no fan of Democrats, but if you want to debate their positions, please debate their actual positions and not your cartoon strawman version of them. Their disineguous debate tactics are just one of the reasons I can't stand Republicans. By the way, I've lost all respect for David Zucker and will never think of Repossessed the same way ever again. (Wait, that movie sucked balls anyway.)

They wanted it all. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and then some. You don't go straight for Saddam. You go for Afghanistan, the easiest one to invade and occupy, where bin Laden supposedly was. Blame the Taliban for harboring him. When they ask for proof that bin Laden did it, take that as harboring the 9/11 perpetrator and invade. Move on to the next easiest target, Iraq. Invade and occupy Iraq. Now you've got Iran surrounded (in theory) with your military. The next step is to claim that Iran wants to destroy Israel with nukes just like you said Iraq would try to attack the US or Israel with bio and chemical weapons. Even though there is no real basis for attack, much of the population of the US would support it because by that time you have convinced them that Iran wants to rule the world (through Islam or some such bs) and that there is a global conflict involving Islam and the West (sounds crazy, but this is what's going on now). Invade Iran.

This could have been something like the plan. Of course, it didn't all work out so well and we probably won't get our trifecta, as in we won't invade Iran, because our military can't handle it, and Russia and China wouldn't stand for it.

I sent an email to whomever runs the website www.debunking911.com. It's really not a bad website, but it's far from good. He really needs to clean that thing up if he (or she) wants actual credibility.

This is an example of a strawman. People like Alex Jones don't say that it is impossible for Arabs to hijack planes and fly them into buildings. They say is it impossible for Arabs, or any foreigners, to confuse NORAD with multiple terror drills and make them "stand down" (as he puts it) on the very day they plan to attack. Alex Jones doesn't ever mention that these war games and simulations aren't closely guarded secrets (neither does anyone trying to debate Jones's and others' points, including Popular Mechanics and your site, which always makes me scratch my head). Just go to www.falseflagnews.com to see listings of many war games and terror drills planned for the near future. It's pretty easy to find out about these things and it would have been obvious to plan multiple hijackings for a day on which multiple hijacking simulations and distracting war games were to be carried out. Also, the 7/7 bombings in London took place during a terror drill simulating that very situation, tube and bus bombings. It must be that the terrorists planned their attacks that day once they found out which day the drills would be held.

If you could address this argument this way, it would be much stronger, instead of focussing on Osama bin Laden, since there is no actual physical evidence linking him to 9/11. (I never understood why everyone focusses on bin Laden and not on the man who actually masterminded the plan, KSM, and whom we have in custody. You hardly hear about him, at least not 1% as much as you hear about OBL.) His "confession" right before the elections could be many things. He is in Bush's rolodex, like many CT say, or he is taking credit for something that he didn't do to gain advantage and to make empty threats. And read the words of the "confession" very carefully and critically. Does he ever really confess? Not really. It came to his mind? Well, it came to everyone's mind after it happened. Even US intellgence puts the mastermind of the attack not as bin Laden, who they claim is a financier, but as KSM and Atta, based on plans by Yousef. "They pointed out that AQ spent..."

This is yet another strawman anyway, I'm afraid. The CTs don't say that all these people are in on the conspiracy. They say (a) most of them were fooled too (b) there are a few 'brave' people here and there coming out of the woodwork. There are people in the Pentagon who have called for an investigation, after they resigned (i.e. Karen Kwiatkowski). There are people in the CIA who have called for an investigation, after they resigned (i.e. Ray McGovern). There are many of the widows and family of the victims who are calling for a full independent investigation. They don't dismiss complicit elements within our government either. Also, don't you think it's odd that 'all' the steel got shipped off and sold? Don't you think that years and millions SHOULD be spent investigating the steel and everything about the collapse of the buildings. You say NIST is studying computer models. Why aren't they studying every scrap of steel from the buildings themselves. Ask yourself that.

Honestly I had hoped for more. I was under the impression that there would be detailed historical analysis of false flag and black operations, but it was more cursory than I would have liked. I did like the treatment of the 7/7 bombings. This was all new to me since in the US, we don't really give a shit about them (collectively speaking, of course). I didn't realize that the connection to MI-5 was so well documented. I was very disappointed in the last half of the flick because it's just plain masturbation. He brings out some of the 9/11 Scholars clique and mentions all the people he's mentioned a million times, and then just plays clips of Charlie Sheen and himself on CNN and Jimmy Kimmel. That was sad. Summary: first half - good (could have been better), second half - crap. Enjoy.

National Geographic Channel - Cog in the Scare Machine

This channel has been airing a lot of "inside" specials, like Inside 9/11, Inside the US Secret Service, Inside the Pentagon, and the most ominous Triple Cross: bin Laden's Spy in America.

Add this to CNN's special whose name I forgot and don't care to look up, where they blast a picture of bin Laden on the screen with the words "KNOW YOUR ENEMY." They even go so far as to kind of slowly zoom in on the pic.

Now, if that's not propaganda, I don't know what is. I mean, it's about as close to Emmanuel Goldstein that you can get. Know your enemy, indeed. The Brotherhood, The Base, what's the difference?

So when people come forward to explain that what you see on the TV screen isn't the whole truth or may even be quite fabricated, you're not surprised. And if you are surprised, then, well, you deserve pity.

TRIPLE CROSS: Nat Geo Channel's Whitewash of the Ali Mohamed Story

Over Christmas I wrote a 12 page ten-act treatment outlining the two key parts of the Ali Mohammed story...

That part of my research was presented in the Nat Geo documentary that aired on Monday.

But that was only half of my story. The other half was the astonishing saga of how the two bin Laden "offices of origin" -- the FBI's New York Office (NYO) and the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the SDNY, allowed Mohamed to operate with impunity for years. How key special agents in the bin Laden Squad (I-49) like Jack Cloonan desperately played catch-up as Mohamed planned the Embassy bombings. How John Zent, Ali's west coast control agent was totally outgunned by him, getting caught up as a material witness in a grisly triple homicide in Fresno in 1992 when he should have been riding herd over the al Qaeda sleeper. How it was Zent who vouched for Ali and got him released from Canadian custody in 1993 - allowing him the freedom to help plan the Blackhawk Down operation and the Embassy bombing plot.

My most astonishing, findings involved Patrick Fitzgerald, the former head of Organized Crime and Terrorism in the SDNY, who had allowed Ali to remain free as early as 1994 even though he named him as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Day of Terror case. Another of my key findings was that Fitzgerald buried probative evidence of an al Qaeda New York cell in 1996.

So they didn't want to make it seem like this Ali Mohamed (can't these people come up with some more names?) was connected with our government, or that people in our government knew that he was a double agent, if you can even call him that. That would get people mistrusting the government and maybe folks will start asking all the wrong questions.

But really, why should I believe any part of this show or any part of this column by a man who says they left all the juicy stuff out?

We need televized debates among world leaders. Instead of pussy-ass press conferences where everyone tries to act diplomatically (you know, talking about "that pig" or giving shoulder massages), world leaders should hold regular debates with one another on various topics. They could either stay on one topic or, in the case of leaders of two countries that are in dispute, go crazy.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused the US and UK of abusing their "special privileges" and said a debate would let both sides air their views uncensored. The White House called his suggestion a "diversion" from global concerns over Iran's nuclear programme.

Uh oh, it looks like Bush is cutting and running from any debate with Mahmoud. What's he got to fear? I mean, surely they'll let him wear the little box under his suit again.

Debunking Debunking 9/11 Myths

I just listened to the Popular Mechanics podcast about their book "Debunking 9/11 Myths."

Here it is in mp3 format.

I really expected some serious debunking and was planning on their relieving some of my paranoia and suspicion. Alas, that was not to be. With the exception of certain parts of their explanation of why the buildings fell, it was all crap. Maybe you can try to count the number of strawman arguments made. I tried to count the number of obfuscations too. Couldn't keep up.

An example: They kept referring to the confusion of the FAA and NORAD on 9/11 and saying, "See, real life is complicated. It's not like the movies. The conspiracy theorists are just naive and they think things work like the movies." This was probably the worst strawman/muddied argument in the mix, and there were plenty.

Well, that's totally ridiculous. One of the central pillars of the main conspiracy theories is that a high concentration of war games and simulations were planned on the day of 9/11 in order to confuse air traffic controllers and the air defense system. There were phantom blips all over the place. Fighters were diverted to Alaska and elsewhere. Some people were participating in one simulation over here and others were participating in another simulation over there. Vigilant Guardian, Global Guardian, Northern Vigilance, and others, were going on, all on the same day, all on 9/11/01. These operations diverted resources as well as confused people. Let's not even mention that Donald Rumsfeld changed procedure in July, 2001 so that only he could order a shootdown (well I just did). Now the pilots are distracted while commanders on the ground are powerless. Anyway, you see why the Popular Mechanics people are disingenuous to say that confusion on the part of NORAD and the FAA discredits conspiracy theories because a confused air defense system is a central pillar of the theories.

Now, why didn't they say that some of these operations aren't that big of a secret and that terrorists could find out what the operations are and when they are carried out and pick that day? That seems like a sensible answer. But they didn't pick that answer. They chose to build up strawmen and muddy the issue, which to me, destroys their credibility and makes me wonder.

The entire last third of the program is dedicated to a pop psychology discussion about why people believe kooky things (like dishonesty on the part of govt officials, or that greedy people can do sneaky and dastardly things, no way, right?) Total shit. In the middle of all their, "we are just presenting facts" BS, they sure presented a lot of opinions. The whole last third was pretty much an opinionated commentary on the psychology of paranoid weirdos. This is not the way to convince intelligent people sitting on the fence. It sure won't convert any of those "paranoid weirdos."

I will commend them for calling out one of the big sore spots of the main conspiracy theories, explosives being used to demolish the buildings. I hate this one. With the exception of their LAME explanation of why building 7 fell, they did OK (just OK) on this one.

1. Explosives are not needed to bring down a building built like WTC 1 and 2 were. They were quite unique designs. Once the central columns were damaged, stress had to be redistributed. When load bearing structures eventually gave way, there was catastrophic failure.

2. Demolishing the buildings are totally unnecessary. If indeed "they" used the terrorist attacks to justify plunderous war, hijacking planes and flying them into buildings is more than enough. The people who cried out for war with the Taliban and Al Qeada (most Americans) would be crying just the same even if the buildings had never fallen.

3. Cui bono? Nobody. Max Silverstein collecting insurance? No. It's not like someone cuts him a check for $7 billion and he rides off in an armored car with the loot. I'd really like for someone to explain in detail how anyone benefitted from the destruction of WTC 1-7. I just don't see it.

Again, the fall of WTC 7 is still a mystery to me and these guys on thishere podcast sure didn't enlighten me nor did they clear anything up for me.

Give this thing a listen. Maybe even tell me what you think.

PS - I doubt anyone cares, but the reason I haven't posted here in a while is that I'm really busy. Plus, this shit gets old quick. No one ever told me that. I wonder how some people do it for so long (o yeah, they get paid).

The woman said that it was hard to find entirely intact buildings in the town itself. The man said that in the town itself there was wholesale destruction. He said that the SUBURBS were "virtually" untouched.

Then they try to make it seem like they were taking different camera angles to make the place seem "more destroyed" than it was. I'm sorry but both those angles make it look pretty bad. The place is wasted.

Israeli troops detained about 350 Lebanese soldiers and police in Marjayoun after capturing the town on Thursday, Lebanon's interior minister said. The Israeli military said nobody was taken prisoner.
Lebanon's Interior Minister Ahmed Fatfat told The Associated Press that Israeli troops entered the garrison in Marjayoun Thursday afternoon "and asked to share it with Lebanese troops there."

"The troops refused and said they would leave, but the Israeli did not let them," he said.

Fatfat said the head of the joint army-police force, Brig. Adnan Daoud, was among those detained. "We consider them to be captives," he added.

Attack outside Shia mosque kills 35

A suicide bomber today killed at least 35 people in an attack outside Iraq's most revered Shia mosque.
The bomber blew himself up while being patted down by policemen near the Imam Ali mosque in the holy city of Najaf, home to the tomb of Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law.

I say, great! The less carbon that's being pumped out of the ground, the less will be burned and pumped into our atmosphere, the more incentive people have to conserve.

Democrats want to make an issue about this. They want people to be pissed off and demand lower gas prices, while somehow also demanding that we curb carbon emissions. You can't have it both ways, people.

Now, there is a problem when tax incentives and subsidies for alternative power sources are killed and when electric cars and plug-in hybrids are stymied by the auto/oil lobby in our government. If you are using less gas, but being impeded from using something else, then the economy suffers. The people have to take some things into their own hands.

You don't mine or drill for hydrogen, you have to make hydrogen, and it takes energy to reduce it to the molecular form. Where's that energy going to come from? Anyway, just remember that the Hydrogen Economy is a billion dollar ruse. It's meant to distract people for a decade while fuel emissions standards stagnate.

Meanwhile, less oil is coming out of the ground. The motivations may be 'sinister' and profit driven, but I don't care. Just keep that crap in the ground and out of the atmosphere.

We can still help the Iraqis in strategic areas, like the oil fields, but we'd have to do it with Iraq's interests put first. Unfortunately, the interests of the Iraqi people are not the primary concern of our government and surely not the primary motivation for the prolonged occupation.

The measure would remove the currently required consent of governors for the federalization of the Guard, which is shared between the individual states and the federal government.

I was watching CNN a few minutes ago and one of the correspondents was referring to the dominance of Hezbollah being a result of the Lebanese Army being so weak. Well, then why aren't we propping them up? By we, I mean those countries that have an interest in Lebanon being a functioning democracy and not a bombed out hell hole. If Hezbollah was such a grave concern, then why aren't we shipping munitions and military aid to Lebanon instead of bombs to Israel? Sure, maybe they can't afford them right now, but call it aid. Ship it to them on credit or as a donation. It's either in our interests to support Lebanon's government and national armed forces or it's not.

I just really hate seeing these lame justifications for what's going on.

This was an aggressive action taken out by Israel, which is escalating and no one can do a thing about it. Except maybe to prop up the Lebanese armed forces. But then that wouldn't allow Syria and Iran to slip into the fray (which they are not stuid enough to do).

At least two Israeli fighter pilots have deliberately missed civilian targets in Lebanon as disquiet grows in the military about flawed intelligence, The Observer has learnt. Sources say the pilots were worried that targets had been wrongly identified as Hizbollah facilities.

As one well-connected Israeli expert put it: 'If we have such good information in Lebanon, how come we still don't know the hideout of missiles and launchers?... If we don't know the location of their weapons, why should we know which house is a Hizbollah house?'

Yonatan Shapiro, a former Blackhawk helicopter pilot dismissed from reserve duty after signing a 'refusenik' letter in 2004, said he had spoken with Israeli F-16 pilots in recent days and learnt that some had aborted missions because of concerns about the reliability of intelligence information. According to Shapiro, some pilots justified aborting missions out of 'common sense' and in the context of the Israeli Defence Force's moral code of conduct, which says every effort should be made to avoiding harming civilians.

I say kudos and huzzah to these pilots. Some would say that these pilots are cowards, but I say that this defiance of orders in this case is an example of bravery. It appears that Israeli intelligence is trying to play the odds and figure that if half the sites they hit are actually Hezbollah, then these bombing raids are successful. I think the pilots that actually have to drop the bombs and fire the missiles into buildings housing civilians, who are seeking shelter from those very bombs, see it a different way. Good for them. Would that ever happen in the US military? I don't know, but I doubt it.

It also makes me wonder if some of these attacks on houses and cars are not some sort of personal vendetta killing. The house may not be Hezbollah, but that of a political or business rival of some Israeli higher ups.

The rocket attacks fromHezbollah must stop. They could be stopped by bombs that also kill children, but they could also be stopped by a cease fire. Is that permanent? No. Would a Condi Rice solution, her so-called 'sustainable cease fire' be permanent or actually sustainable? Don't be ridiculous. But a cease fire in any case stops the violence now. Thankfully, some Israeli pilots realize that bombing 'random' Lebanese houses isn't the solution.

Israel's bombs cut off Beirut.

After bombing the last land routes into Beirut, and effectively cutting off the Lebanese capital from relief supplies, Israel issued a statement saying the attacks were designed to thwart Syrian attempts to arm Hezbollah.

As the US military did in Iraq, The Israeli military tries to accompish it's military goals against geurillas and in the end turns the capitol of a country into a hellhole.

The War Tapes

I just came back from seeing The War Tapes at the Belcourt Theater.

It's a compilation of footage taken from camcorders given to members of a company in the New Hampshire National Guard deployed to Iraq.

Present was one of the film makers, Specialist Brandon Wilkins, there to answer questions at the end of the screening. It was totally amazing. His demeanor and his answers to questions seemed to have little to do with what we just watched. I got to ask him two questions. I wanted to ask him many more. I was one of the first to get to ask a question. At the beginning of the film, one of the "cast members" and photographers, Michael Moriarty, said that 9/11 caused him to want to be deployed to Iraq. He specifically said that he wanted to be deployed to Iraq because of 9/11. He said because of 9/11, he wanted to be deployed for war, but only if he could go to Iraq.

The question I asked was, "At the beginning of the film, Mike Moriarty said that he wanted to be deployed to Iraq because of 9/11. Do you think this means that he believed that Iraq or Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11?"

The answer was that he just wanted to be part of the military action.

I asked, "Just any military action? He just wanted to go to war somewhere?"

The answer was that he wanted to be part of the overall action.

Well, um, he specifically said Iraq. And he specifically said because of 9/11.

At the end of the film Mike Moriarty was singing a different tune. He kept repeating the "O" word, oil. He also made it very clear, repeatedly, that he never wanted to go back. It was someone else's turn.

Anyway, there were other questions, and it seemed that Specialist Wilkins was there to toe the party line on Iraq and not to seriously answer serious questions. When asked if he thinks that America is safer because of the war, his answer was that it obviously was. Saddam was a bad guy. He repeated the mantra that Iraq is now free and the people don't have to live in fear. That's when my hand shot up and I had to ask him another question.

I asked, "You say that the Iraqis don't have to live in fear anymore, but what about the sectarian violence, the semi-civil war? Don't people have to live in fear of being killed over any number of things?" People could be blown up at any minute in a market place. They are targeted for execution for trying to work in the Iraqi Police or the Iraqi National Guard. Dozens of people at a time are lined up and executed with their hands behind their back. This stuff happens all the time in Iraq. And this guy is trying to tell us that these people don't live in fear? I couldn't believe it.

One guy could. When I asked my first question, this guy in the seat in front of me turned around and said, "You'e got to be kidding." I just looked at him, super pissed, and said, "That's exactly what he said in the movie." Then after my second question he turned around to me and said, "Oh, come on." I looked at him and just said, "Death Squads, dude."

I tried to keep my questions apolitical, and I think they were. Others, not so much.

Some guy started bringing up all the liberal media and CNN. The one that took the cake, though, was Chris Lugo. He stood up wearing a dirty grey t-shirt stretched across his huge belly, with his huge ratty beard and dreadlocks and identified himself. "I'm Chris Lugo, the Green Party candidate for Senate in Tennessee." He then proceeded to ask a question that was so ridiculous and not-so-well thought out that even Wilkins couldn't take him seriously. I can't even remember what it was.

This was truly depressing to me.

Is this all there is? This is the only antiwar candidate we can muster? A college dropout who loves his hairdresser for starting his dreads for him? My girlfriend said that maybe she should run since this guy can. I said that she'd likely get more votes.

In the end, I say GO SEE THIS MOVIE. I think everyone should see this. It's quite real. The soldiers constantly complain about KBR/Halliburton. They are shot at A LOT. Crazy stuff was happening all the time in Iraq. Most of the shots of Iraq were actually quite depressing.

Everyone should also see the Discovery Channel's series "Off to War," which chronicled the lives of members of the Arkansas National Guard, most of whom said they got a raw deal. They said that going to war in a foreign country is not what they signed up for. It really wasn't. That was another question I wanted to ask. None of these men ever mentioned the fact that they were in the National Guard and they were being deployed to a foreign country. They never gave their opinion on that in The War Tapes.

My take home message is to go see this film and try to make sure you go to a screening where someone is there to answer questions. Hopefully, it won't be someone so "on message."

Harold Powers was only 20 when he watched a frightening sight unfold here 60 years ago: Battle-hardened World War II veterans in a shootout with armed sheriff's deputies.
The so-called "Battle of Athens" began Aug. 1, 1946, when veterans opened fire on the local jail to stop corrupt local officials from stealing an election.

Felix Harrod, 84, was a 25-year-old poll watcher at the courthouse during the shootout and said it was common for incumbents in the county about 45 miles northeast of Chattanooga to take ballot boxes to the jail and stuff them with pre-marked ballots.

That was a practice the former soldiers hoped to stop. They offered an all-ex-GI, nonpartisan ticket that promised a fraud-free election and reform. Their rallying cry: "Why fight overseas for freedom and come home and be denied the right to have your ballot counted?"

The shooting continued until the pre-dawn of Aug. 2 when the former soldiers tossed dynamite at the jail, prompting deputies and a sheriff candidate holed up with ballot boxes to surrender.
The uprising left one man with a bullet wound and sent a deputy to prison.

Now, I rarely condone any sort of violence and thankfully no one was seriously wounded or killed in this incident. But, think about it. In this situation, or any situation where those in power attempt to remain in power through theft, it's really an act of force on the part of the one stealing the election. Government is a method of force, and supposedly in a Deomcracy, those with the power to use force on the people are given that power by consent of the people upon which the force will be used. If the power of force is taken by force, and done so by the law, what other recourse is there?

In Mexico, those that voted for the 'left' candidate, Obrador, have taken to the streets (claiming election fruad). Will this accomplish anything? Will it bring them 'justice'? Maybe so, maybe not. Or, as in McMinn County, TN in 1946, is the system so thoroughly corrupted that the only way to achieve achieve 'democracy' is by force (a tad oxymoronic, eh?)

Imagine if what happened 60 years ago happened today. What would it look like? How would the authorities respond and how would it be portrayed in the news?

I can imagine cable news channels declaring it an insurgency or some sort of terrorist act. Those fighting for 'justice' and 'democracy' would be labelled criminals and vigilanties (technically they would be.) The SWAT teams would roll out, along with the FBI and the ATF, and we'd likely have a nice Waco style BBQ. Then we'd get right back to business as usual. The stuffed ballot incumbent would go back to his office and carry on applying the force of government onto citizens without their consent, just like everywhere else.

John Aravosis has done it again. The man is entirely detached from reality.

His spin on the Castro situation, handing over power to his brother while he undergoes surgery, is that this is a case of political instability under Bush's watch.

Look, I'm certainly no fan of Dubya, and that's a vast understatement. But, when people go around making stupid connections between him and things that he really has no control over, it's a total credibility destroyer.

He's done it so many times that I thought he couldn't top himself, but this post takes the cake.

So first of all, it's clearly worldwide. I mean, what I just described to you is an initial survey of a worldwide war.

And being Americans, we prosecute wars to win them, not to have "reasonable response," not to have "appropriate levels of retaliation." Our theory is you start bombing our cities; we're going to defeat you and make it impossible.

See? It's as simple as defeating the bad guys by killing them. They're bad because they bomb cities, so they must be destroyed, by bombing cities.

Then Zawahiri took his turn.

Israel carries out airstrikes anyway.

Israel carried out airstrikes Monday in southern Lebanon despite an agreement to stop raids for 48 hours to investigate its bombing on Qana that killed at least 54 civilians.

An unidentified Lebanese emergency official -- speaking live on Al-Arabiya TV -- said rescuers lacked the heavy equipment to remove people trapped under the collapsed building.
"We can't do anything for them under the rubble because we do not have the right equipment," the official said.

So that's the reason for the suspension. They wanted to investigate 'what went wrong' in a bombing raid that destroyed a building with dozens of civilians in it. What's there to investigate? You released the bomb, it dropped, it detonated, the building fell, people died. End of investigation.

Besides, the suspension didn't last the whole two days. They just couldn't stop themselves.

Red Cross worker Sami Yazbak, who was helping to pull bodies from the building, said many of the children who were sleeping inside were handicapped.

Yow, that's damning, eh? Well, but I guess those handicapped children shouldn't have been fraternizing with terrorists. So they must have deserved it. Thankfully someone has finally held them responsible.

Israel is suspending air strikes over Lebanon for 48 hours.

Why?

Because recent air strikes killed 60 people in one go, half of which were children.

Right?

Does that mean they feel bad about it?
Well, no, they're caving to pressure from other countries.

But here's what's interesting. Why does it matter which of these reasons brought about the 48 hour suspension? The suspension, if it is indeed some sort of an "oops, my bad" situation, seems to be saying that killing a few people here and there is tolerable, but killing 60 at once (as opposed to over the course of a few days) just isn't. It's a strange standard indeed. Whether this is Israel's standard or that of countries pressing it to stop, it's the one that's being applied.

No matter, folks in southern Lebanon and Beirut can look forward to more of the same in a couple of days.

I know there are some civilian casualties. I just can't find pictures or stories. I can find stories about IDF casualties, but not civilians.

Update 2: Just now on CNN there was a Sanjay Gupta story about Russian immigrants being wounded in Haifa due to Katyusha rockets. Hopefully there will be a transcript posted later. It's amazing that it's so difficult to find stories or pictures of civilian casualties in Israel and that the only one that I can really find is about Russian immigrants and not Israelis themselves.

So here's the ethical question of the day. Someone is firing hundreds of missiles at your citizens each day, and launching them from civilians areas because think they think you won't hit back (or hope you do, and thus kill civilians, causing a storm of bad publicity). As for the civilians, it's an open question whether they are helping harbor the guys with the missiles or not, i.e., whether or not they have a say in telling Hezbollah to take a hike (and if they do have a say, would that change your answer)?

So the question is this, under those circumstances, what do YOU do as the leader of country that's receiving 100 rockets a day raining down on your cities?

Second question, which I've posed before. At what point does a local citizenry become responsible for the crimes it supports? When Israel is on the receiving end of bombs, I hear a lot of talk about how every Israeli is a legitimate target because they all support the government. So does the same apply to every Arab, every Muslim, every southern Lebanese, and every American?

Rumors have started.

A few weeks ago, Israeli had its fighters buzz the Syrian presidential palace. That was rather gutsy, and in-your-face. There's speculation in some circles that Israel may bomb Damascus or Tehran in the coming weeks, and I have to say, I'm not sure I'd have a problem with that.

My logic is this. Israel bombing civilians, bad. Israel bombing Lebanon when Hezbollah is the problem, bad (and I have a hard time believing Lebanon has the ability to do jack about Hezbollah). But the real culprits here are not the Lebanese, they're Syria and Iran who have been causing hell in Lebanon for decades.

If Israel has concrete proof that Syria and Iran are directly responsible for supporting Hezbollah and supplying them weapons, etc. (and I'd be surprised if they didn't), then it's difficult to say that Israel can't, or shouldn't, counterstrike against two countries that are attacking Israel via proxies.

Controversial, yes. But while I'm not 100% committed to this strategy, particularly because of the possibilities of any attack on Damascus or Tehran possibly spinning things out of control, it surely makes a lot more sense than the approach we took to dealing with Iraq. Perhaps a shot across the bow, or down their throat, could help "contain" Iran and Syria. It's not clear how letting them get away with murder, quite literally, is helping anything.

Yeah, he's got no problem with pre-emptive bombing campaigns. It's war and war is hell. And since the US is supplying bombs to Israel so they can carry out their devastation in Lebanon, I guess he's also got no problem with Iran sending some bombs over here. Maybe he wouldn't mind if some Iranians crashed a plane or two into the Pentagon. But, here he even says that Israel's bombing of Lebanon is bad and that their killing of civilians is bad. Gotta love his contradictory logic. But that didn't last long.

It's a question much bigger than Lebanon:
The Western-backed, anti-Syrian prime minister Fuad Saniora held back tears as he vowed on Lebanese television Saturday night to curb the guerrillas, desperate to stop Israel's onslaught.

But on Sunday, President Emile Lahoud — a pro-Syrian and an ally of Hezbollah — pronounced that Lebanon "will not surrender" to Israel's attempts to batter it into submission.

Few believe Saniora could move against Hezbollah without throwing the country into further turmoil. The army he would have to send into the south has many Shiite members, who might balk at fighting their brethren in the guerrilla force. The country's large Shiite population would be outraged.

People like to talk, especially, I've found, in Europe and the Middle East, about how they hate the US government but like the American people. They say you can't hold a people responsible for what its government does. That's always struck me as odd, since we live in a democracy where the people are the government, and in the case of Bush, 50% or more of the American people, up until recently, supported the man's folly.

When the people support the government, as in this case the Shia in Lebanon likely don't want the government clamping down on Hezbollah and its missile attacks on Israel, at what point are the people responsible for the actions of their own government, and at what point should they be held responsible for those actions?

Meaning, if Hezbollah missiles are killing Israelis, and Hezbollah's actions are supported by Lebanon's Shia population, doesn't Israel have the right to retaliate against the Shia in Lebanon? At the very least against their utilities and their roads? Putting aside the wisdom geo-politically of such action, morally isn't it any country's right to strike back?

Or, if you think that the Shia in Lebanon don't share responsibility, then do you also believe that Americans who supported Bush, and who voted for him twice, and who supported the war in Iraq don't share any of the blame for the mayhem Bush has unleashed over the past six years?

Even though he asks this as a question seemingly meant to provoke discussion, it sure seems like he's trying to justify his earlier statements supporting Israel's actions. I guess "being held responsible" to Johnny means killing them. And if the government of a country really is an extension of the will of the people (not likely) then I suppose by extension that Johnny A-list has killed at least a few dozen children by his support for Israel.

It's time the American people took George Bush at his word. Yes, he's incompetent and a bit dumb, but he's been pretty consistent with his foreign policy. And Bush said he wasn't going to withdraw from Iraq, and he means it. So if you like US troops being bogged down in Iraq for the next several years - Bush himself said the next president would have to decide if the US ever pulls out (nice cop out) - then keep voting Republican. They've already told us repeatedly that theirs is the party of war. You like war, vote for them.

Makes sense to me. Why the hell else would all this start? Remember the 2 Israeli soldiers were captured in Lebanese territory controlled by Hezbollah. Again, I'm not defending Hezbollah, I just want to keep straight who really started this. And soldiers weren't abducted in Gaza, so that has nothing to do with the bombings there.

The deliberate Israeli attack on a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) outpost in southern Lebanon was the result of that post gaining information of Israeli atrocities committed against the civilian Lebanese population.

Again, makes total sense. It reminds me of the deliberate bombing of Al Jazeera by US forces. I think this is a result of old style military tactics mixing with new style military tactics and the fact that information can be zipped around the world in a matter of seconds in almost real time. So the old school military tactics of bombing and raiding and killing news outlets and journalists is meeting the new information technology and everyone knows about it. In the past, you'd rarely if ever hear about these things and they were deftly dismissed by officials.

I guess I should give some props to some local beer.

Yazoo Brewing Company is probably the best beer made in Nashville.

It's sort of a microbrew, but they ship beer all over the place. Most places in Nashville, at least, have Yazoo on tap, even some movie theaters.

Their hefeweizen is actually some of the best I've ever tasted. It's right up their with Paulaner and Franziskaner maybe even better. It's very fruity and smells like bananas and strawberries. It's extremely smooth and tasty and quite alcoholic. (I'm not the type to ruin Hefeweizen by squirting lemon juice in it of all things. Why do people do that?) I also am quite fond of their Pale Ale. But it gives you a monster headache if you drink too much. I wish they would bring back their Belgian Ale. It was the best beer they ever made, IMO. I think it was something like 7.5% alcohol, which might not be entirely legal in Tennessee. Stupid beer laws don't make any sense.

Well, I'll be off to the Brewers' Festival tomorrow! If you're in the Nashville area, don't miss it. The weather is supposed to be nice (not super hot like last year.)

You might remember Ron Paul (R-TX) from his speech on the House floor entitled, "The End of Dollar Hegemony." Also see, "What the Price of Gold is Telling Us."

Like I said, I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I like honesty in politicians and like to see genuine efforts to address real problems, not just tabloid soap opera issues, and I admire Ron Paul for speaking about a serious issue that most people are blind toward.

Also please read, "What Congress Can Do About Soaring Gas Prices." In it he basically lays out the premise that record high oil prices are a direct result of all our actions in the Middle East. (duh) And Ihink he subtly suggests that this is by design. (duh, When oil men become the president and vice president you think oil prices will go down?)

Before the Iraq war oil was less than $30 per barrel; today it is over $70. The sooner we get out of Iraq and allow the Iraqis to solve their own problems the better. Since 2002 oil production in Iraq has dropped 50%. Pipeline sabotage and fires are routine; we have been unable to prevent them. Soaring gasoline prices are a giant unintended consequence of our invasion, pure and simple.

We must end our obsession for a military confrontation with Iran. Iran does not have a nuclear weapon, and according to our own CIA is not on the verge of obtaining one for years...We must quickly announce we do not seek war with Iran, remove the economic sanctions against her, and accept her offer to negotiate a diplomatic solution to the impasse. An attack on Iran, coupled with our continued presence in Iraq, could hike gas prices to $5 or $6 per gallon here at home. By contrast, a sensible approach toward Iran could quickly lower oil prices by $20 per barrel.

We must remember that prices of all things go up because of inflation. Inflation by definition is an increase in the money supply. The money supply is controlled by the Federal Reserve Bank, and responds to the deficits Congress creates. When deficits are excessive, as they are today, the Fed creates new dollars out of thin air to buy Treasury bills and keep interest rates artificially low. But when new money is created out of nothing, the money already in circulation loses value. Once this is recognized, prices rise-- some more rapidly than others. That’s what we see today with the cost of energy.

Ron Paul is one of the few politicians in DC that I respect. Damned honest politicians.

Intense bombing has destroyed most of the civilian infrastructure of Washington State in an effort by Canada to root out God's Party, a terrorist organization that they say has kidnapped two Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Hundreds of US civilians are dead and the civilian infrastructure of Washington has been utterly destroyed. Rockets have been flying from Washington over the border into British Comlumbia. Up to 20 Canadian civilians have been killed and some damage has been done to neighborhoods and train depots in Vancouver.

US officials and most of the United Nations have called for an immediate cease fire, but Canada says that a ceasefire is futile unless the terrorist group is out of operation. Meanwhile, civilian casualties continue to mount as Australia rushes shipments of guided munitions to Canada.

"We have to get the UK to get God's Party to stop doing this shit, and it's over," said Prime Minister Howard of Australia into a microphone he did not realize was open. He never indicated when shipments of bombs to Canada from his country would cease.

Although the Canadian government was initially very slow to evacuate its citizens from Washington, 5,000 of the 25,000 Canadian citizens there have now become departees as they lounge on cruise ships, sipping pina coladas and playing shuffleboard. Many US citizens remain in the area, depsite Canada's dropping leaflets telling them to get out.

Well, it appears that the term "evacuee" had become quickly old and busted.

The new hotness is "departee."

Never mind that the original term, refugee, is correct in connotation and grammar.

People are seeking refuge and those that do recieve it are refugees.

Then came Hurricane Katrina and that word got replaced by "evacuee," even though people who evacuate are "evacuators." I would think anyone who took them in would be the "evacuees," but even that sounds wrong.

Now, we've got "departees." If they are departing then they are departers, not departees.
I guess my company is now my employee and when they sign my checks they are the payee?

Whatever. It's all the same. You can't dress up a desperate situation in newspeak and expect it to look like anything but a desperate situation.

But if you could, departee is the wrong word. I think to really sap the desperation out of the situation, just say they are all on vacation. Call them "vacationers." Or even "excursionists." Or maybe "wayfarers." Next year, they'll say, "Screw 'em. They're refugees." (Lauren Hill and Wyclef Jean would be proud.)

Troublemakers never realize that there is a time and a plce for everything. The time for frat pranks like naked pyramids are for frat houses and prisons, behind closed doors with no photography. Photographs only make trouble. Don't be a troublemaker.

Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte is preventing a thorough examination by intelligence analysts of the civil war in Iraq, RAW STORY has learned.
A report at Washington Babylon, the blog of Harper's Magazine's Washington Editor Ken Silverstein, indicates that Iraq analysts at the CIA have been pushing to complete a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on the political situation in the country. NIE's are the most authoritative intelligence documents produced by the CIA, and the last NIE on Iraq was rejected by the Bush administration for being too negative.

But since the calls to analyze the Iraq conflict have emerged, Silverstein reports, Negroponte has tamped them down. One of Silverstein's sources explained that Negroponte didn't want President George W. Bush to be confronted with a pessimistic assessment of the war in Iraq.

Iraq prisoner abuse 'was routine'

The torture of prisoners in US custody in Iraq was authorised and routine even after the Abu Ghraib scandal came to light, a US-based rights group says.

Soldiers who tried to complain about the abuse were rebuffed or ignored.

But a Pentagon spokesman said 12 reviews had found there was no policy condoning or encouraging abuse.

So it was more of an unwritten rule. More of a cultural thing than a legal thing. Peer pressure, that's it. All the cool kids are doing it.

An interrogator at Camp Nama said the use of abuse techniques was commonplace - authorisation forms could be easily prepared for commanding officers to sign. "I never saw a sheet that wasn't signed," the soldier said.

HRW gives accounts of instances where soldiers who were concerned by the abuses were thwarted from reporting it. One military police guard at the facility near Qaim, who took his concerns to an officer, was reportedly told: "You need to go ahead and drop this, sergeant."

Soldiers Say Ordered to Kill Young Men

Four U.S. soldiers accused of murdering suspected insurgents during a raid in Iraq said they were under orders to "kill all military age males," according to sworn statements obtained by The Associated Press. The soldiers first took some of the men into custody because they were using two women and a toddler as human shields. They shot three of the men after the women and child were safe and say the men attacked them. "The ROE (rule of engagement) was to kill all military age males on Objective Murray," Staff Sgt. Raymond L. Girouard told investigators, referring to the target by its code name.

They're destroying an entire country and killing hundreds of people to retreive 2 soldiers? Hardly. Were the Pentagon and the Bush administration caught off gaurd by this war? Hardly.

More than a year ago, a senior Israeli army officer began giving PowerPoint presentations, on an off-the-record basis, to U.S. and other diplomats, journalists and think tanks, setting out the plan for the current operation in revealing detail. Under the ground rules of the briefings, the officer could not be identified.

If this had been in the works for a year and US officials knew about it, why wasn't an evacuation strategy in place for a year? If the Israelis were ready at a moment's notice to launch an all out offensive upon a country where 25,000 Americans are, and US officials (and journalists?) knew about that, what kept them from having a rapid evacuation plan in place ready to go?

This whole thing smells to high heaven. And if this Wayne Madsen Report (scroll down to July 20) is true, these "Americans" who were in the know are equally responsible

FEMA camps, future detainment camps?

Hmm, nice policy there. Too bad it's completely illegal and unconstitional. What are these people prisoners? Can they leave whenever they like or not?

But then something else is strange about this story.

Officials in Morgan City estimate that FEMA has spent about $7.5 million to build the trailer park but that only about 15 of the 198 trailers are being used. "We all wonder why no one lives there," Matte said. FEMA officials refuse to say how much was spent to build the park or why 183 of the trailers are vacant.

There are camps like this all over the gulf south. My girlfriend's uncle had just opened up a trailer park and was planning on renting trailers and lots out to people. After Katrina and Rita, FEMA came in and rented out every trailer he had and is still renting them out to this day (he's making a killing for doing nothing). Yet, not one of the trailers is occupied. Not one. Like I said, there are camps like this all over the place and they are either mostly empty or entirely empty. Very few have a substantial occupancy rate.

And the people who are unfortunate enough to be stuck in these things are not "allowed" to talk to the press. Why? Is this some sort of conditioning? I doubt it and I hope it isn't.

I really hope that there aren't future plans for these places, especially in the event of another operation. As in another "terrorist" attack. It does make me cringe, though, when I think of all those unused FEMA trailers sitting in Arkansas, just waiting for a crisis. Maybe even waiting for marital law. Who knows?

Israel is sending tanks toward the Lebanese border village of Maroun al-Ras on Saturday in the latest part of its offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas. Troops are already on the ground in the area and the operation is considered a widening of limited Israeli action in southern Lebanon, not a signal that a full-scale ground invasion has begun.

This isn't any kind of breaking news, but what's the deal with Americans wearing the keffiyeh?

Ricky Martin was duped into wearing ine inscribed with "Jeruselem is ours." Ironic that he was also wearing a gold cross around his neck.

(I dont' want to hear it, that boy is American.)

Then I come across a pic of Howard Dean wearing one.

Is this man insane? It would be like George Bush wearing a cape with the Star of David on the back. We know that Bush has picked sides in this conflict, but why would Howard Dean? You can say that he was just showing support for the Palestinian cause. Fine, but you can do that without wearing the keffiyeh, a show of solidarity, which makes it look like you entirely support everything they do. It provides much ammo to your opponents who can then simply say that you support terrorism, that you support bus bombings and cafe bombings. Wearing Isreali symbolism, however innocent it may be, makes it seem like you support apartheid, forcing people from their homes then bulldozing them, and shooting children.

I really wish American politicians would stop (appearing as though they were) picking sides in the Israeli-Arab conflict. It only creates more division.

Hey lots of blogs have gimmicks. Whether it's kittens, orchids, beaches, music, whatever, lots of blogs have some periodic theme post. Let's make this one BEER.

If you're in the Nashville area around July 29 don't miss the Music City Brewer's Festival.

There are brewers from all over the country dying for you to drink their beer. We went last year and despite the oppresive heat, it was great. Tons of beer, some of which I had never tried. Some were avoidable, like the blueberry flavored beer, but others were awesome.

This year Flying Dog brewery will be there. I love their IPA! A total hops extravaganza!

I've been buying this in bottles since it came out, but I have yet to have it on tap. Nashville has many many 100-tap pubs, but they always miss out on the truly great beers. When will someone put Mackeson XXX back on tap? The Flying Saucer in Little Rock had it on tap for a little while and then no more. The Flying Saucer here in Nashville has never had it to my knowlege. Much like Guiness, it's just NOT the same from a bottle.

I also hope that the Franziskaner tent will be there again. Their Weissbier on tap is heavenly. It's great in the bottle (one of the only Hefeweizen beers that still has that fruity aroma in the bottle) but on tap it's perfect.

A friend of mine showed me Americablog back during Katrina. I remember logging on to find the most ridiculous statements being thrown around. Then he sent some guy down there in a huge brand new Ford Expedition, a huge, expensive, gas guzzling beast. I wondered how these bloggers had the money to do this. What made it seem funny is that they were doing their best to play Junior Reporter and act like actual journalists getting to the heart of the story. It looked like what they were doing is sightseeing and getting in the way. Disaster tourists.

If anyone else has some gems from Americablog, please post them at Americavosis. Unfortunately Aravosisblog is no more. And it was shaping up to be such a great parody too. Good comedy there. O well.

I guess it's just interesting to me that a homeless guy has a blog.

I don't pretend to know anything about this man and I have no idea why he's homeless. He seems educated and quite articulate. He appears to be well groomed and clean. He doesn't seem crazy.

Why is he homeless?

His first post refers to depression. I guess I wouldn't understand how depression can make you homeless. I get depressed often and when I was younger my parents brought it upon themselves to stick me in a ward for 2 weeks because they thought I was clinically depressed. The doctors even gave me Prozac, which I think screwed me up. But I'd say my depression was less chemical than it was nihilistic.

I also get writers block and a sort of "work" block, where I just can't seem to bring myself to work on projects that need to be worked on or papers that need to be written. I'll find myself easily distracted and doing things that shouldn't be taking up my time (like surfing blogs and message boards, commenting and arguing). I worry that this little habit of distraction will get me fired one day. I hope not. I wouldn't want to end up homeless.

His hometown is San Diego. Now I went to SD for an ACS convention and I thought it was a great town. I saw plenty of homeless people hanging out in Balboa Park, which is a pretty nice park. I remember saying to myself, "If I were homeless, I'd want to be homeless here." If you must be homeless, at least do it where the weather is mild and there's nice scenery. I wonder why he doesn't try to get back there.

I don't understand why he thinks he should buy $45 Tom Waits tickets when he's homeless. Maybe he doesn't rely on any donations at all, and makes money through blogads and selling things. Who knows. They also destroyed most of the civilian infrastructure and about 200 civilians so far. I think they are getting ready for ground troops to swoop in and try to tighten the noose around Hizbullah "once and for all." What part of this is self-defense? Tell it to all the Americans still stranded there, being extorted by their own government and now have to rely on Syria to save them.

(Don't think I'm just anti-Israel. I think every regime in the region is guilty as sin. All sides commit atrocities and no side is innocent. The only innocent ones are the slain civilians. Maybe you could ask Johnny A-list if he doesn't have a problem with all the slain civilians that would have come from the expansion and escalation of this war that he seems to favor.)

Transformation's Toll is the title and it says it all, to me. Call it code. Transformation was the idea that started all of this. Transformation is why PNAC exists, it's why we invaded Iraq so quickly after 9/11 instead of later (some say it's why 9/11 - The New Pearl Harbor - happened in the first place). It's why we are still in Iraq (besides the oil timeline). We're still testing and experimenting and engineering transformation. Sure we can take over an impoverished 3rd world country with 100,000 troops and stealth bombers and satellite networks, but can we also take out one guy with an RPG sitting under a bridge? Can we use a lean, mobile, networked force to do urban seek and destroy? This is important in the New World Order.

I think many who have been disturbed for the past 4-5 years, wondering where this country is headed, may start to feel some relief. There are many bits of ridiculousness in the piece though. Well, it wouldn't be George Will if not, would it? I was wondering how the US was going to get involved in the war between Israel and Hizbullah/Labanon and finally someone writes about it.

Urgent Warning: CNN prepares Israeli false flag war provocation vs. Americans in Lebanon

CNN and MSNBC coverage this Saturday morning has been stressing the situation of the 25,000 Americans now stuck in Lebanon. These Americans are being invited to register with the US consulates for possible evacuation. The State Department and the US military have been remarkably slow to begin such an evacuation.

One possible provocation scenario to bring the US into the war is that a helicopter carrying US citizens being evacuated out of Lebanon is hit by a missile and destroyed, killing all on board. The missile might be fired by the Israelis or by their allies among the fascist Lebanese Phalangists. The Israelis would announce that the helicopter had been destroyed by Hezbollah, opening the way for a hysterical campaign by Fox News and the rest of the neocon mass brainwashing apparatus to secure an early US attack on Syria and Iran.

I really hope something like this doesn't happen. I also hope that this war ends quickly and doesn't spill over into some World War the way Fox News, et al. have been peeing their pants hoping it wil happen.

Also, when I saw that Israel had set up a naval blockade and had artillery and rockets set up in strategic positions, I thought that this was all pre-planned. But, alas, maybe the Israelis are always in a state of alert and certain maneuvers are so well-planned and almost in place that it doesn't take them very long to mobilize if, say two of their soldiers that provocatively cross the border are captured.

This whole thing seems mapped out from the beginning and it sure looks like it was meant to start a regional war and draw many parties into it. I don't think Syria or Iran or Egypt are in the mood for full scale war, but I doubt they'd just back down once provoked. If this thing does escalate, FSM help us all.

We can't even keep our colonies in line. How can we possibly believe that we can take over the whole Middle East?

People everywhere call Tony Blair Bush's Lapdog, but is that really the state of things? I'll bet that once Bush started showing up at international summits and meetings, leaders recognized that this is a man totally out of his element and who would probably never realize it or overcome it. Some of them had a talk with Tony Blair and asked him to take Dubya under his wing, coach him along and keep him out of trouble, all without Bush realizing that it was happening. Bush's fratboy-type dominance dancing makes him think that he's in control and that he's got sway with people. All the while, behind his back, world leaders sigh and shake their heads as Bush makes a complete ass of himself. Blair is always there, like a big brother, to reassure Bush and to make sure he doesn't do any real damage (other than to his own image, of course.)

So there's my theory. Blair isn't Bush's lapdog, he's his big brother figure, there to babysit him and keep him away from the adults while they are taking care of grown-up business.

I'm not a Republican nor am I a Democrat. Both sides say stupid things all the time.

I actually don't know the affiliation, if any, of the writer here, but he's making some sweeping claims about what would happen if Israel had never been formed and most of them forget the rest of Middle Eastern history.

1. The U.S. would not have any enemies in the Islamic World.

Is he kidding? Did he forget about the post-WWI imperialism/colonialism of Great Britain and even the United States after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, none of which has anything to do with the creation of the state of Israel?

2. There would be no Al-Qaeda Terrorist Network.

This is equally absurd, especially if you believe those who say that Al Qeada was actually formed and funded originally by the CIA.

3. Gasoline would be selling for less than $1 a gallon.

Uh, yeah. Which ass did you pull that out of?

4. There would have been no 9/11.

This is an attempt to further perpetuate the official story behind 9/11. It was all those angry Muslims and they were angry because we support Israel. Please. 5-8 are merely consequences of 9/11. No 9/11, no 5-8.

9. Iran would not be the next target for U.S. aggression. (No Israel. No “A Clean Break” document. No Israeli Lobby. No Neocons. No need for the U.S. to attack Iran.) [5]

Give me a break. Did he forget about our dictator that we installed in the 1950s? Remember him, the Shah? That's when the Iranians started hating us. We started hating them after they overthrew our dictator and held our citizens hostage. Then they hated us more when we shot down one of their airliners in 1988. Now we hate them because they have started selling oil for Euros instead of Dollars. So maybe I should say that if the European Union had never formed, we wouldn't want to attack Iran. That would be the same type of logic we have here with this writer.

12. Jerusalem would have a vibrant Christian population.

It has a Christian population right now. Is it vibrant? I guess that's a matter of opinion, isn't it?

14. The 2,544 Americans who have died in Iraq would be alive; and the 18,777, who have been seriously wounded there, would be fully participating in our Republic. U.S. taxpayers would have an additional $295 billion, (the cost of the war), in the treasury to use to serve the social needs of the people. Universal Health Care would be a real possibility and Social Security would not be in jeopardy. Iraq would be at peace. There would be no Gitmo Bay detention center, or an Abu Ghraib Prison, or a reason for the Bush-Cheney Gang to gut Habeas Corpus. No need for it to also employ torturers, or chemical weapons, or hold detainees without charges or trial. The Geneva Convention would be respected. The tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis, who have died as a result of the war, would instead be alive today. (At the following footnote, see horrific photos of some of the Iraqi dead.)

Good god. The Iraq war has nothing, and I mean nothing, to do with Israel. Saddam was a dictator sitting on the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world. The US is a country where the strength of the curreny depends on the price of a barrel of oil and that eveyone buys and sells oil with it. This way countries must keep dollar reserves, which lose value through inflation, which in effect creates a way for the US to tax the rest of the world. This is why we are so rich, yet have $9 trillion in debt, with no one (yet) calling in all those loans (it would rock the world economy if that happened too quickly). The Iraq war was all about central banks, petrocurrency, and economic hegemony. It wasn't about WMD and it certainly wasn't about Israel.

15. The battle to save our planet, its fragile ecosystem, its fast vanishing animal life and plants and to combat global warming, would be issue “No. 1.” [10] Instead, we are perpetually bombarded with propaganda about defending “Israel’s security.”

At this point it's really hard to take this guy seriously. How does he know what the No. 1 priority would be? Does he honestly believe it would be something as altruistic as "saving the planet?" Also, Israel's security is not the priority that is being heaved onto the Murkin people, it's Murka's security that is being cynically used as a pretext for all the raping of the treasury and power grabs by those currently in power.

Well, his list gets lost in strange handwringing over what Israel has done for the past 40 years and just says that all these bad things wouldn't have been done by Israel of Israel had never been formed. You could point to any country on the map and do the same exact thing.

Well, if this guy is a lefty, then he's providing all sorts of ammo to righties who want to justify all of Israel's actions. And I hate when lefties do that. I hate it when lefties make dumb arguements based on some irrational notion that got built up in their heads. It's so easy to attack and dismantle an argument like that.

Suffice it to say, Israel or no Israel, the US and the UK would still have half of the Middle East hating them and burning their flags. They were doing it for decades before Israel even formed. It's been this way ever since WWI and the discovery of oil in the Middle East. Mind you the formation of Israel has definitely made things worse, but you can't say that it is the root of all evil.

Very rarely do I come across an argument so watertight that nothing can break through it.

Republicans want to bring up things like gay marriage and flag burning to distract from the mess that is Iraq. Democrats also ignore Iraq in their campaign ads because most of them voted for it. Harold Ford, Jr. running for Senate here in Tennessee is running an ad focused on gas prices and alternative fuels. Does he realize that the high price of oil is a direct result of the war in Iraq, which he voted for as a Representative? Bob Corker, also running for Senate, has ads concentrating on the border, which is also a distraction, and a very effective one.

Well, Morning Martini has a post that takes one of the many distractions, the gay marriage distraction, and makes mincemeat out of it while immediately directing attention back to the Iraq disaster.

My own feeling is that the biggest possible threat and harm to heterosexual marriage is war. This war in Iraq is producing hundreds of widows and widowers. In addition many, many divorces are the result of a spouse’s deployment.

Bravo! Now you'd think that the genius political strategists working for the Parties would have come up with this a long time ago, and they probably did, but the Democrats don't want to talk too much about the Iraq war that they supported and still do, even though they make noises in attempts to fool people into believeing that they don't, and the Republicans, well, they're hopeless.

I remember when Bush became president-elect in 2000. I wrote to my Finnish internet pen pal that I was ashamed that George Bush, Jr. was our president and thought, "This can't be good. Something bad is going to happen." At first, I thought we were in the clear. Dubya was ineffectual and just hung out on his ranch and cleared brush while sitcoms made fun of him and his stupid fake Bushisms and the way he said nukular. I had almost forgotten about him, and then 9/11 happened and you know the rest.

Now that Israel has become a lit fuse burning toward an all out regional war in the Middle East, that may just turn into World War III, the President of the United States must be taking this very seriously and is trying his best to work things out, like all the other world leaders, or at least leaders of countries with great global influence. So, when asked a serious question about the bombing of the Beirut Airport, which is now being used to airlift U.S. citizens out of Lebanon (for a fee), how does Chimpy McFlightsuit respond? With a stupid reference to a roast boar that he wouldn't stop referring to during his press conference with Chancellor Merkel of Germany. Somebody just shoot me now. All I could do when I saw that was shake my head and mutter "Jesus Christ."

The design of lightning and thunder

An objector to ID posed the following question to a friend of a friend:

“It seems the system by which thunder and lightning is generated (composed of the sun, water on the ground to heat up and evaporate, thundercloud, air, ground) would qualify as “designed” since it is a system of several well-matched, separate, interacting parts accomplishing a function beyond the individual components and in which removing one piece does away with the function. Allen argued that since it “obviously wasn’t designed” the method of design detection given in the book is fundamentally flawed and gives many false positives. Is this an incorrect use of irreducible complexity, and if so, how?”

There are lot’s of problems here: (1) IC (irreducible complexity) presupposes a basic primary purpose/function of a system — what is the basic purpose/function here? (making loud noises, illuminating the earth, generating heat, …); (2) the question confuses the necessary conditions for a system existing at all with its parts (the sun is no more “part” of lightning and thunder than water is “part” of the bacterial flagellum); (3) IC needs SC (specified complexity) to nail down design, which means that the parts coming together have to be highly improbable — ignoring the last point, what is the probability of the sun, the earth, the evaporation of water, etc.? Do they not, on materialist principles, follow by necessity from deeper physical-chemical processes and laws? (4) Where are the independently given patterns — specifications — that allow the explanatory filter to operate and thus, according to my theory, implicate design?

Isn't the function of lightning to balance charge between the atmosphere and the ground? Wouldn't another function of lightning be to start forest fires that clear out a bunch of old or dead trees? The function of thunder is to scare my dog and tell him to seek shelter from the rain. And of course the sun is part of the lightning mechanism. You can't have lightning on Earth without heat from the sun just like a bacterial flagellum cannot operate without water (ATP synthase will not "operate" without water.) And Michael Behe's definition of Irreducible Complexity does not include any mention of Specified Complexity, an invention of Dembski's tacked onto IC later. And notice that Dembski takes a challenge to the definition of IC, then muddies his explanation by bringing up the Explanatory Filter and Specified Complexity, which have nothing to do with Behe's original definition of IC. It's remarkable that so many people follow this bafoon.

But, I get the feeling (repeatedly) that he really just likes being a soldier for the Democratic Party. That does not make him a liberal. There's speculation in some circles that Israeli may bomb Damascus or Tehran in the coming weeks, and I have to say, I'm not sure I'd have a problem with that.

FBI says, ‘No hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11'

The Muckraker Report spoke with Rex Tomb, chief of investigative publicity for the FBI. When asked why there is no mention of 9/11 on the Bin Laden's Most Wanted Web page, Tomb said, “The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Osama Bin Laden's Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting bin Laden to 9/11.”

Surprised by the ease with which this FBI spokesman made such an astonishing statement, I asked, “How was this possible?” Tomb continued, “bin Laden has not been formally charged in connection to 9/11.” I asked, “How does that work?” Tomb continued, “The FBI gathers evidence. Once evidence is gathered, it is turned over to the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice then decides whether it has enough evidence to present to a federal grand jury. In the case of the 1998 United States Embassies being bombed, bin Laden has been formally indicted and charged by a grand jury. He has not been formally indicted and charged in connection with 9/11 because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting bin Laden to 9/11.”

It shouldn't take long before the full meaning of these FBI statements start to prick your brain and raise your blood pressure. If you think the way I think, in quick order you will be wrestling with a barrage of very powerful questions that must be answered.

-The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday. The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A.

Now these three stories all make it seem as though Osama bin Laden is not actually being hunted for plotting the attacks on 9/11/01. He denies involvement. The video purported to show him confessing the crime is widely deemed a fake. The FBI says it has no hard evidence connecting him to the attacks, even though they could easily fabricate it. The CIA supposedly shut down the unit "hunting" for him (of course that doesn't preclude another unit opening up.)

So what does that tell us about Osama bin Laden? Once a CIA operative and valued member of a powerful Saudi family with connection to U.S. leaders and dealmakers, but now public enemy #1 to the West (simply due to artful propaganda) and a hero in the Middle East (probably due to the same reasons.)

I guess we'll never know and his story will go down like that of Lee Harvey Oswald or John Hinkley. He's either an evil terrorist, a sontrived boogeyman, or a patsy. we report, you decide?

So it was a good movie. I expected something a little different, but stil it was good. I recommend you go see it, but it's quite confusing. I'll just leave it at that.

What the movie makes me want to do is go read a bunch of Philip K. Dick books. I loved the movie Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)
. Wasn't too impressed with Total Recall (We Can Remember It For You Wholesale) or Minority Report (The Minority Report) but maybe the books are better.

Rapture Ready jumping the gun?

Well, I never planned on the first post to be about Rapture Ready but that's the nature of websurfing.

Someone is itching for armageddon and they just can't wait for the world to be detroyed.

Is it time to get excited? I can't help the way I feel. For the first time in my Christian walk, I have no doubts that the day of the Lords appearing is upon us. I have never felt this way before, I have a joy that bubbles up every-time I think of him, for I know this is truly the time I have waited for so long. Am I alone in feeling guilty about the human suffering like my joy at his appearing some how fuels the evil I see everywhere. If it were not for the souls that hang in the balance and the horror that stalks man daily on this earth, my joy would be complete. For those of us who await his arrival know, somehow we just know it won't be long now, the Bridegroom cometh rather man is ready are not.

How can we not be excited, our redeemer cometh. We should pray always for the lost. But he is coming. Amen Amen ever so come lord Jesus.

Ready, waiting and excited here! Still telling others whenever possible that the rapture could take place at any time because this world is in such a big MESS and evidently it goes through one ear and right out the other

I tell ya, nothing is more amusing than fundies and their weird superstitions. Well, maybe thy'll get to drink from the beervolcano in heaven after the FSM let's them into heaven, because he's a nice guy.
